Absinthe campaigns use a tier-based progression system to translate points into visible status, progression, and unlocks. As users earn points through campaign activities, they automatically advance through tiers once they cross predefined point thresholds. Tiers are configured at the campaign level and are reflected in real time on the user-facing points portal.

How tiers work

Each campaign defines one Base Tier and any number of additional tiers. Users start in the Base Tier by default. As their total points increase, they move into higher tiers automatically. Points are cumulative. Once a user crosses the threshold for a tier, they are considered part of that tier and all lower tiers. There is no manual intervention required. Tier assignment is deterministic and driven entirely by points earned.

Tier configuration

Each tier consists of the following components: Tier name The internal and user-facing name of the tier (for example, Tier 1, Gold, Early Adopter). Tier image Each tier can have a custom image or badge. This image is shown in the user profile, leaderboard, and tier progression UI. Custom visuals are strongly recommended to make progression feel tangible. Point requirement The minimum number of points required to reach the tier. For example, a tier set at 100 points becomes active once a user’s total points reach or exceed 100. Point thresholds must increase monotonically. Higher tiers always require more points than lower tiers.

Messaging

Each tier supports optional user-facing messaging. This messaging is shown in the points portal and is typically used to:
  • Explain what the tier represents
  • Set expectations for rewards or perks
  • Motivate users to continue progressing
Examples include copy like “Get ready to earn rewards and unlock perks” or “Exclusive access unlocked at this tier.” Messaging is purely informational and does not affect eligibility logic.

User experience

On the user-facing portal, tiers appear as a horizontal progression track showing:
  • The user’s current tier
  • Their total points
  • Progress toward the next tier
  • All available tiers in the campaign
This makes progression explicit and reinforces continued engagement. Users can immediately see how close they are to the next tier and what lies ahead.
